What you’re about to witness might just be the greatest shot in NBA preseason history. And we have a former Wildcat to thank for making it happen.

During the third quarter of Thursday night’s preseason game between the Charlotte Hornets and the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder, Cason Wallace cleaned up an air-balled three-pointer by his Thunder teammate in miraculous fashion. The third-year guard picked up Jaylin Williams’ missed shot right before it went out of bounds from behind the backboard, quickly lofting the ball 20 feet in the air to beat the shot clock buzzer. Wallace’s floater soared over the backboard — above the shot clock, even — and somehow found its way into the bottom of the net.

Like, how is this possible??? This is a circus shot that would make the Harlem Globetrotters jealous.

And yes, that shot counts as two points and was not ruled out of play for going over the backboard.

Wallace and the Thunder went on to win the game, 122-116, with Wallace finishing as the one of the top performers. The former Kentucky guard went for six points (3-7 FG), 10 rebounds, eight assists, and three steals in the preseason dub. Expectations only continue to grow for Wallace, who was key to OKC’s run to winning the NBA Finals last season. Already considered one of the best defenders in the world, he’s once again going to play an important role next to reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in the Thunder backcourt this coming season and beyond.

But if Wallace is already hitting shots like this? Just go ahead and start the MVP campaign now. OKC will begin its path to a repeat title when the NBA regular season begins Tuesday, October 21. The Thunder will take on Kevin Durant, Reed Sheppard, and the Houston Rockets in the very first game of the 2025-26 season.
