I Am Furious. Let Me List The Reasons.

I am furious that John Calipari has ruined my favorite event of the year, the NCAA Tournament. It has become much less enjoyable when Kentucky is not competitive in it.

I am furious that John Calipari has ruined the SEC Tournament, which is many UK fans’ favorite event of the year. The performances in that event since 2021 have been inexcusable.

I am furious that we are no longer the gold standard in college basketball. Historically, yes. But right now, is Kentucky even a top-10 basketball program in this country?

I am furious we even have to ask that question.

I am furious that Alabama and Auburn are unquestionably better programs right now.

I am furious that the most ridiculous contract in college sports is holding this fanbase hostage. A lifetime contract for anybody is a terrible idea. If Cal wanted to leave for UCLA, let him. Now, he holds the power over Mitch Barnhart.

I am furious that John Calipari has assistants who don’t seem to assist him much. Do they gameplan at all?

I am furious we can’t defend an in-bounds play.

I am furious other teams dictate games now and we never take away the other team’s best options.

I am furious that John Calipari couldn’t adapt to the times. It took him YEARS to implement a modern offense.

I am furious that he took that modern offense and lost to Oakland.

I am furious that Doug Edert and Jack Gohlke are the players who killed us. Not stars. Not All-Americans. Not All-Conference players. A couple of bench players.

I am furious that NCAA Tournament draws have opened wide for us in 2018, 2019, 2022, and 2023 and we’ve not taken advantage of any of them.

I am furious that De’Aaron Fox, Malik Monk, Bam Adebayo, PJ Washington, Tyler Herro, Shai Alexander, Cason Wallace, Tyty Washington, Oscar Tshiebwe, Tyrese Maxey, Reed Sheppard, Rob Dillingham, and Antonio Reeves are all some of the best players to ever wear the uniform. And they have zero Final Fours between them. And they have one Elite Eight between them.

I am furious that we took Reed and Rob and Reeves and lost 10 games. Those guys should have been LEGENDS at this school. Now, they likely won’t be. I’m furious because that wasn’t entirely their fault.

I am furious that it seems most of these players don’t reach their potential at Kentucky anymore. But when they get to the NBA they explode.

I am still furious at 38-1.

I am furious that the lack of wins doesn’t seem to bother Calipari as much as it should.

I am furious that John Calipari calls his teams young when they actually are not.

I am furious that John Calipari calls his teams young as an excuse for losing when he is the one who built them that way.

I am furious that John Calipari lies. It’s not cute. It’s not funny. It’s not just “his way.” It’s just lie after lie after lie. By the way, where’s that tweak he said we were going to see against Oakland?

I am furious at the way John Calipari talks to fans. He’s just so patronizing to the people that make this program what it is. And when you do it while also losing, it’s just infuriating.

I am furious that John Calipari has been given so much more of a leash with this fanbase than Tubby Smith ever was. And he continues to squander it and barely care.

I am furious that John Calipari caused a significant split in this fanbase with his “basketball school” comments. Dividing the fanbase like that was one of the worst things he has done.

I am furious that John Calipari should be considered a legend at this school but he’s ruined it. And not just because of on-court results. But because of the way he has treated this fanbase for years.

I am furious that John Calipari has convinced a small segment of this fanbase that nobody could do better, so they continue to defend him and his results. You are telling me there aren’t 50 coaches out there that wouldn’t lose to Oakland?

I am furious that in a time where we are dominating UofL like never before and should take the greatest joy at the demise of their program, we instead are also watching ours collapse.

I am furious when La Familia is talked about but the fans are never a part of that family.

I am furious that John Calipari never uses the word “unacceptable” to describe the last four years. There is always a twist or excuse or deflect. Never 100% acceptance of his failure.

I am furious that I don’t care about Kentucky Basketball as much as I did five years ago. I want to but John Calipari has made it almost impossible to do so because it’s obvious that disappointment is coming.

What should happen as a result? I know what I think. But unfortunately, fans don’t really have the power to decide right now. And that should make us furious.
