Hello, friends. The end of an era is almost upon us. The New York Post is reporting that Jim Nantz will call his last NCAA Tournament next spring. The 63-year-old broadcaster has been the voice of the Final Four for more than three decades, calling his first Final Four in 1991. He will be succeeded by Ian Eagle, who has been with CBS since 1998.

“It’s his time,” Nantz said of Eagle. “I will support him 1,000 percent. He doesn’t need my support. But I’m absolutely thrilled for him. He’s a great teammate. He’s been right in the middle of this NCAA Tournament for a long, long time. So he’s not dropping in from outside, I mean he’s going to be working an extra weekend. It happens to be the big one. And he is definitely capable and ready and will excel and he’ll take it to all new heights.”

Nantz chose the 2023 Final Four to be his last in part because it takes place in Houston, where he began his sportscasting career. He will continue to be CBS’ lead voice on NFL and golf coverage, including the Masters. He also plans to return to the Final Four each year to handle the trophy presentation.

“I would like to sit in the stands for the great majority of the game with my kids,” Nantz said. “And tell them that their dad used to call this game. ‘Now, if you’ll excuse me for a few minutes, I’ve got to go down to the floor and give the trophy away.’ That will be a lot of fun.”

Congrats to Eagle, a friend of the KSR family, on a move that’s been a long time coming. It’s good to know Nantz won’t be going too far. Hopefully, we’ll get to recreate this moment for years to come:
