Jaland Lowe came back to help and made a big impact against Indiana

Jaland Lowe played a starring role for Kentucky in the win over Indiana on Saturday. He came off the bench for 13 points, five rebounds, two assists, and a steal, with a team-leading +24 in the +/- column. Lowe’s impact went well beyond the box score, most notably in the second half when Kentucky took control of the game. He scored nine of his points after halftime.

After the game, Lowe hopped on with The Field of 68 for a brief postgame chat from Kentucky’s locker room. He told Rob Dauster and Jeff Goodman that the win felt “amazing” and “meant everything” to the team.

“It’s the biggest game of the year for us, so we just try and go out there and play with each other, and know that our backs are against the wall,” Lowe added. “It is all about how we retaliate out there, and I know our guys did a great job of that tonight, and, you know, I’m glad to do it against a great team like Indiana.”

Lowe is playing through pain for his teammates

Also from the conversation with Dauster and Goodman, Lowe spoke about his willingness to play through the pain of a nagging shoulder injury, saying it’s been “one of the hardest times of his life.” He chose to return to action rather than step away for surgery and explains that he wants to help his teammates turn this season around.

“I’m at my dream school right now. I want to play with these guys. You know, we haven’t been doing the best, so I just want to be out there with those guys, and as a competitor, it’s tough, not having something in your control is pretty hard, especially just going out there and never knowing what’s going to happen.

“So, I mean, it’s been hard. But, you know, I have a great group of people around me that keep me positive, and I come here every day with a smile on my face. I keep going for these guys. I see how much these guys pour into me, and I just want to pour back, no matter if I’m on the court or off the court.”

“It’s been some dark days, but it can’t rain forever right now, so we’ve just gotta keep fighting.”

Moving forward, Lowe says the shoulder is the best it can be right now, though he is still playing through the rust of missing six games.
