Mark Stoops Talks Kentucky's 38-31 Win Over Louisville

The roster turnover got started on Monday at the Joe Craft Football Training Facility. Kentucky redshirt senior safety Jalen Geiger put his name in the transfer portal two days after the Wildcats stunned No. 10 Louisville on the road.

On3 was the first to report the news. The Columbia (S.C.) Spring Valley product was a three-star signee in the class of 2019 who played 253 defensive snaps for Kentucky this season. Geiger entered the 2022 season as a starter at safety but was lost for the season in Week 2 due to a season-ending knee injury. The veteran made a full recovery to return in 2023 until the injury bug showed up again in Week 6 against Georgia. That injury caused Geiger to miss the Missouri game.

Once that occurred, playing opportunities became slim for the veteran safety. Jalen Geiger will leave Kentucky after five seasons with 38 tackles, two pass breakups, one interception, one sack, and two defensive touchdowns.

Geiger becomes the 15th high school signee from the class of 2019 to transfer out of the Kentucky. MJ Devonshire (Pittsburgh), Jared Casey (Indiana), Moses Douglass (Alabama A&M), KD McDaniel (UCF), Isaiah Gibson (Marshall), and Cavon Butler (Toledo) were other defensive signees in that class that are currently playing elsewhere.

Jalen Geiger should have a good shot at receiving some power conference interest in free agency. The veteran will be a super senior in 2024 with one season of eligibility remaining. The defensive back can bring positional versatility having played both safety spots and nickel in defensive coordinator Brad White‘s scheme.

The first transfer domino has fallen. Expect many more to occur as we’ve reached the wildest month on the college football calendar.
