It’s been five years since we lost Jared Lorenzen, but his legacy lives on. Today, the former Kentucky quarterback got a shoutout on one of the most popular podcasts in the country. In the latest episode of “New Heights,” Jason and Travis Kelce talked about Jared and even watched some of his highlights from his years at Kentucky.

Jared first came up when Travis, who plays tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs and is engaged to Taylor Swift, said his brother, who is retired from the NFL, looked “thicc” in an old picture alongside Peyton Manning.

“I look like a Jared Lorenzen,” Jason quipped, which kicked off the tributes.

“RIP, dude!” Travis said. “He was so f****** fun to watch.”

“Hefty Lefty!” Jason said. “There’s never been a quarterback I’ve enjoyed watching more than Jared Lorenzen.”

From there, the brothers watched Jared’s college highlights, marveling at his speed, arm strength, and size.

“Every kind of chubby guy that played football thinks they’re Jared Lorenzen.”

“This dude was an insane athlete.”

“He just f****** was a ballplayer, doggone.”

“Jared Lorenzen is the epitome of Uncle Rico if he were an actual person.”

During his time at Kentucky (2000-2003), Jared rewrote the record book, finishing with over 10,000 passing yards and 78 passing touchdowns on over 1,500 attempts. He also had 12 touchdowns on the ground. He set six NCAA records, four SEC records, and 11 school records, including total offense, pass attempts, pass completions, and passing yards. Those are all career records, but he also holds the record for passing yards in a single game, 528 yards, which was set in the Georgia game, which he almost missed due to a thumb injury. Once he left Kentucky, Jared went on to play for the New York Giants for three years, during which he won a Super Bowl.

We miss Jared every day, but it’s very cool to see two of the most famous names in sports — and pop culture — celebrating him today. The full episode of “New Heights” drops later today wherever you get your podcasts. Until then, enjoy the clip below and some more of Jared’s highlights. We can never get enough of those.
