On Friday evening, Kentucky football legend Jared Lorenzen's jersey was retired at his alma mater in Ft. Thomas, Kentucky. As seen in the photo above, Lorenzen's family was invited for the ceremony prior to Highlands' matchup against Conner High School, where they honored the former Wildcat's life and time at the school. Lorenzen, who passed away on July 3 at 38 years old, played for the Bluebirds from 1995-98. As the team's starter in 1998, Lorenzen tossed for 3,392 yards and 45 touchdowns, along with rushing for 904 yards and 15 touchdowns en route to a 15-0 record and Class AAA Kentucky state title. As a four-year starter at Kentucky from 2000-03, Lorenzen managed 10,354 passing yards (862 of 1,514) and 78 touchdowns through the air to go with 12 rushing touchdowns. At the time of graduation in 2003, the former Wildcat had broken six NCAA records, four SEC records, and 11 University of Kentucky records. He was later inducted into the UK Athletics Hall of Fame in 2015. The UK Wildcat Marching Band also made the trip to Ft. Thomas, KY for the evening, where they also honored the Kentucky legend. The band provided the soundtrack to the school for the game, presented a pregame show, halftime entertainment, and a closing performance after the matchup. They also joined Highlands' band in the stands and learned the school's fight song for the game. https://twitter.com/KYHighFootball/status/1180254663368683520?s=20 "We are so honored to be involved with this celebration for Jared Lorenzen," UK Director of Athletic Bands Dana Biggs said. "I want to thank Lori Duncan, band director at Highlands High School, and everyone at the school for inviting us to perform. Jared meant everything to both of our schools, and I think he would love the fact that we are coming together in his honor." The school also painted its 22 hash marks blue and added #22 stickers to the team's helmets for the entire season. The University of Kentucky recently announced that Oct. 12 would be officially declared Jared Lorenzen Day for its game against Arkansas. Fans can use the offer code "TWENTYTWO" exclusively online at Ticketmaster.com to receive $22 off tickets to the Arkansas game in select areas of Kroger Field. This offer is exclusively available online, while supplies last. In addition to the ticket discount, commemorative rally towels will be distributed at the gates for ticketed fans upon entry. The Lorenzen family and his teammates are invited to attend and take part in remembering Jared. Well done, Highlands and well done, Kentucky football. [mobile_ad]
