Jason Hart watched Tyran Stokes drop 52 points in Seattle this week
The curious case of Tyran Stokes continues with no commitment and new schools throwing their hats in the ring for a shot at the No. 1 player in the country, momentum seemingly stalling out for Kentucky after being seen as the overwhelming favorite leading up to the early signing period in the fall.
That doesn’t mean the Wildcats are giving up just yet in their pursuit of Mark Pope‘s first top-10 prospect as the leader in Lexington, though.
In fact, UK assistant coach Jason Hart flew all the way out to Seattle on Tuesday to watch Stokes drop 52 points for his new high school, Rainier Beach. He was seated next to Washington assistant Quincy Pondexter with the Huskies now reportedly in the mix for the 6-7, 225-pound wing originally out of Louisville. Vanderbilt also extended an offer last week, despite Stokes officially cutting his list down to three finalists — Kentucky, Kansas and Oregon — back in November.
The Jayhawks were also in attendance for one of the five-star’s games last week.
Stokes went for 52 points on eight made 3-pointers to go with 11 rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks in the 100-72 victory over Seattle Prep. He’s now averaging 32 points per contest this season for his new school after withdrawing from Notre Dame High School on November 5.

His team now sits at 5-0 on the young season.
Kansas had picked up recent steam, despite Stokes’ status as a Nike athlete and Kentucky holding the advantage there as a Nike program, before others such as Washington and Vanderbilt dipped their toes into the water to see just how open the No. 1 recruit is to hearing outside pitches at this stage of his recruitment. Monitor his visit schedule and see just how serious he is about exploring those campuses — and any others that choose to get involved — before we call it a total reset among college options.
Either way, judging by Hart’s cross-country efforts to watch Stokes in person, it’s clear Kentucky isn’t ready to wave the white flag for the Louisville native. We’ll see if that gets the Wildcats anywhere — across the finish line, to be specific.
Until then, check out the complete game highlights of Stokes’ 52-point effort this week:
