Jasper Johnson Secures Spot in Iverson Classic

A future Kentucky Wildcat is among the best of the best from the prep basketball ranks. Kentucky native Jasper Johnson will play in this spring’s Iverson Classic.
One of a handful of high school All-American games, the Iverson Classic was created in 2017 by the NBA legend, promoted as “an elite showcase with a competitive, streetball-inspired edge.” Johnson is the latest Kentucky Wildcat to participate in the event, following in the footsteps of Cason Wallace, Rob Dillingham, TyTy Washington and more.
Johnson may not be the only future Kentucky Wildcat in this year’s event. Nate Ament is participating in the prep showcase. Duke and Louisville are seen as the top candidates in the five-star wing’s recruitment, but this race is far from finished. He plans on taking one more official visit before making a decision and On3’s Jamie Shaw reports that may very well be Kentucky.
The Iverson Classic tips off on May 3 at the Hampton Coliseum in Virginia at 7 pm EST.

Johnson put up 31 points on Sunday in a one-point win over Huntington Prep. Mark Pope and Malachi Moreno were in the stands to see all of the action unfold.
“It means a lot,” Johnson said of Moreno making the trip to Versailles. “Malachi is my future teammate next year. Coming out and supporting me. I was sitting by him at the game the other night talking about it. How are our dream is coming true slowly. It was great to see them on the baseline cheering me on.”
