We’ve all heard about or experienced the Freshman 15, but the Transfer Sophomore 40? That is something else altogether. Kentucky released updated every player’s height and weight on their official roster, and several guys appear to be in body transformation mode. However, no one stuck out more in this update than Jayden Quaintance, who apparently grew an inch and a half and gained 40 pounds since these numbers were last posted a few short months ago.

Kentucky’s initial roster released early this summer listed Quaintance at 6-foot-9-inches and 215 pounds. These numbers have now ballooned to 6-foot-10-and-a-half inches and 255 pounds.

For most people, adding 40 pounds in a short amount of time likely means they’ve been on a heavy diet of pizza, ice cream, and beer, but for an 18-year-old future NBA lottery pick with access to elite-level training, this is a good thing.

Leaving aside the oddly specific half-inch designation, part of this weight gain came via height. Remember, Quaintance just turned 18 years old, so growing a little bit isn’t all that surprising, but adding 40 pounds is only going to make him that much more of a force down low for the ‘Cats next season (as soon as his knee gets healthy).

Other big height and weight changes

Jayden Quaintance isn’t the only Wildcat undergoing bodily changes. Kentucky’s duo of McDonald’s All-American Freshmen, Jasper Johnson and Malachi Moreno, each grew an inch recently, with Johnson up to 6-foot-5 and Moreno getting to an even 7-foot. Johnson’s extra inch added five pounds, while Moreno tacked on 20 pounds with his growth spurt.

Additionally, the skinniest guys on the roster, Kam Williams, Reece Potter, and Braydon Hawthorne, all added a much-needed-for-SEC-play 15 pounds to their frames.

While all his teammates are gaining weight, Jaland Lowe is shaving it off. Lowe was listed at 188 earlier this summer, but now checks in at 170. Reports out of practice indicate Lowe has been better than advertised, and this new, slimmer, quicker self might have something to do with it. No more Primanti Brothers sandwiches for this former Pittsburgh resident.

Even if you don’t see a huge jump in the raw numbers, know that all of these guys are hitting the strength and conditioning program hard this summer. For example, Trent Noah is still listed at six-foot-five and 220 pounds, but has reportedly lost his sweet mountain angel baby fat and replaced it with muscle.

Physicality, or the lack thereof, was an issue at times last season. That will not be a problem this year.
