John Calipari Keeps Proving He 'Gets It'

by: Matthew Hays03/03/12
John Calipari may be taking in some high school basketball tonight. He's not recruiting any of the players on either team, but when he steps into Duquesne University's Palumbo Center to catch the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League Class A championship game between Lincoln Park and Cornell he'll be displaying the quality that draws recruits from all over the country to him. Loyalty. Mike White of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says the rumor is that Calipari will be at the game tonight to show some love for his former coach, Bill Sacco, Cornell's head coach. White had this to say of Coach Cal:
It would not surprise me at all if Calipari showed up. That's the way he is. He is extremely loyal and giving to his former coaches. When Calipari played at Clarion University, his coach was Joe DeGregorio. Calipari has flown DeGregorio and his wife to Final Fours in the past. It would be great if Calipari showed up tonight.
For all the talk around the nation about how Calipari is such a scumbag, he at least seems to be the nicest scumbag. Look at the high character of this team. Sure, these guys are naturally good hearted, but they've been influenced some by their coach as well. I think these displays of loyalty are great not only for Calipari's image, but also the image of the school and team that he represents. Good on you, coach.
