John Calipari, Orlando Antigua are in for VJ Edgecombe

Don’t tell John Calipari he doesn’t have a shot with a prized recruit. He’s going for it with ‘24 five-star guard VJ Edgecombe.

The staff continued with follow-up visits throughout the fall, followed by yet another in-person trip on Thursday. Calipari and Orlando Antigua made the trip to Benton to watch Edgecombe participate in the Marshall County Hoopfest.

The 6-4, 180-pound guard out of New York is rated as the No. 5 overall prospect and No. 1 shooting guard in the latest 2024 On3 Player Rankings. His list previously included Alabama, Baylor, Connecticut, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Miami (FL), Michigan, St. John’s and the G League Ignite before Kentucky jumped in the mix.
Duke and St. John’s had been seen as the heavy favorites. Now, the Wildcats have emerged as a serious darkhorse to land the five-star prospect.
