Jon Sumrall donating $100,000 to Tulane NIL amid move to Florida
Jon Sumrall is leaving Tulane with a generous Christmas gift amid his transition to Florida.
It was announced Monday morning that Sumrall and his wife, Ginny, have donated $100,000 to Tulane’s NIL program, the Green Wave Talent Fund, to help give the football team’s next head coach, Will Hall, a little bit of a head start going into the 2026 season.
“Tulane University and New Orleans are special to me and my family,” Sumrall said in Tulane’s press release. “Ginny and I are honored to support the Green Wave Talent Fund because we believe in the vision of Tulane Athletics and want to contribute to the continued success of its student-athletes. The future is incredibly bright, and we are excited for Will Hall and his family to be part of it.”
“Coach Hall possesses a keen understanding of Tulane University and its football program, along with a passion that greatly benefits the Green Wave. As a leader, he cares deeply about helping others reach their full potential and is dedicated to equipping them to achieve that goal in every way possible. He has our family’s full support, and we wish him nothing but success as he leads Tulane Football!”
Sumrall, who was named the new head coach at Florida earlier this month, will stay with Tulane throughout the Green Wave’s College Football Playoff run before officially making the move to the Gators full-time. (11) Tulane will take on (6) Ole Miss in the first round of the CFP on Saturday, Dec. 20 (3:30 p.m. ET | TNT/truTV)

This is not the first time that Sumrall, a former Kentucky football player and assistant coach, has donated to Tulane. Back in 2024, they joined the “Olive & Blue Society through a recurring philanthropic commitment to Tulane Athletics.” The Sumrall’s donation to the Green Wave Talent Fund will help supply NIL money to football, men’s and women’s basketball, and baseball.
After two successful seasons at Troy (2022-23), Sumrall posted a 20-7 record during two seasons at Tulane (2024-25), including the program’s first-ever CFP bid this season. The Green Wave went 11-2, beating North Texas in the American Championship Game to reach the CFP. Facing Ole Miss will be a rematch of the regular season matchup between the two teams, with the Rebels winning the first one 45-10 — although Lane Kiffin won’t be coaching Ole Miss this time around.
Sumrall sure isn’t making it easy for Kentucky fans to dislike him right now. We’ll see if that changes between now and the time Florida comes to play the Wildcats at Kroger Field next November.
