Jordan Anthony, Masai Russell claim silver medals in NCAA Indoor Track Championships
The NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships took place this weekend out in Albuquerque. Some hardware is coming back to the University of Kentucky.
Jordan Anthony and Masai Russell both brought home a silver medal with the men’s and women’s teams recording top-20 finishes. This marked the third consecutive top-25 finish for the men’s team.
Anthony, a redshirt freshman wide receiver on Kentucky’s football team, was a silver medalist in the 60 meters. The Mississippi native finished in 6.55 seconds in the final to take home second place.
“It’s really a great experience,” Anthony said. “To be honest, to be able to be a freshman so young. Really just 18 racing against all the older kids, older people. Taking this experience and this moment, and just moving on forward to outdoors with Coach Hall. We just want to see what’s for us. Go BBN! Not bad for a football player.”
Russell competed in the 60-meter hurdles clocking in at 7.75 seconds for a runner-up finish. That marked a personal best for the graduate student from Maryland.
Kentucky’s next meet will be next weekend in Orlando at the Black & Gold Invite hosted by UCF.
