Jordan Obi feels 'blessed to be out there' after putting up 15 PTS, 15 REBS on Morehead State

After transferring in from Penn, Jordan Obi missed the entirety of last season due to a lower leg injury she suffered during the offseason.
The team could have certainly used her last year, but the long wait for her Kentucky debut was more than worth it. As Kentucky beat Morehead State 75-59 on Monday, Obi shined as she recorded 15 points on 6-11 shooting while also grabbing 15 rebounds along the way.
It had been 598 days since Obi took the court. Five. Hundred. Ninety. Eight. So, to say that she was thankful to be out there again would be an understatement.
“I feel good. I’m grateful,” she said in the postgame press conference. “I’m blessed to be healthy again, playing with my teammates, happy that the first game was a win.”
Of course, while she played well in particular, the team as a whole didn’t play up to their standards, and she knows that.

“Like coach said, the way we played was a little disappointing, especially for where we say we want to get to, but overall, grateful, blessed to be back out there.”
Obi was tabbed to the Preseason Top 20 Watch List for the Cheryl Miller Award last week — the award given to the best small forward in the women’s college basketball. If she continues to play the way she did against the Eagles, then she’ll have a shot to win the award.
While it’s unlikely she’ll keep this kind of pace, it is exciting to see what kind of potential Obi has this year.
