Juwan Howard expected to be named head coach at Michigan

The University of Michigan has reportedly found its man.

According to Miami Heat Beat, Miami Heat assistant coach and former Wolverine Juwan Howard is expected to be named head coach at Michigan.

Howard, a member of the Fab Five, played at Michigan from 1991-1994, where he averaged 15.3 points and 7.5 rebounds per game over the course of his career. During his third and final season with the team, the 6-foot-9 forward averaged 20.8 points and 9.0 rebounds, where he was named second-team All-American and first-team All-Big Ten.

After putting his name in the 1994 NBA Draft, Howard was selected fifth overall, where he eventually played 19 seasons in the league. He averaged 17.0 or more points per game in eight of his first ten seasons, including an NBA All-Star selection in 1996.

After retiring from the NBA since 2013, Howard has served as an assistant coach for the Heat ever since, where his focus lies heavily on player development in the frontcourt.

In terms of immediate impact related to Kentucky, Howard is cousins with 2019 five-star forward Jaden McDaniels, and there are rumblings that the 6-foot-10 prospect would consider playing for his family member in Ann Arbor if he got the job.

Though it’s extremely late in the process and McDaniels is reportedly meeting with his inner circle about a potential commitment this week, would this decision cause yet another delay in the five-star’s recruitment?
