In the middle of a surprisingly eventful Wednesday evening of Kentucky football news, one of the Wildcats’ top targets made an interesting move. Karmello English shared he will NOT be committing this weekend. After delaying the decision he promptly put his phone on “Do Not Disturb.”

English is a four-star wide receiver ranked as the No. 128 player in the 2022 recruiting class according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

A native of Phenix City, he lives just 45 minutes away from Auburn, Al. English has frequently visited the Tigers’ campus. Ahead of his planned July 2 decision, Auburn was the overwhelming favorite in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. Obviously, this changes things.

To be blunt, Auburn was going to be choice if he went through with the planned announcement this weekend. Now Kentucky has more time to make up ground, but there’s another school in contention: Michigan. The Wolverines hosted English for his most recent official visit. If you’ll notice, in his announcement Tweet he also tagged Michigan’s On3 reporter, EJ Holland.

There’s been another team added to what was once perceived as a two-horse race. In the short term, Kentucky’s coaches welcome the news. With Michigan in the mix this recruitment may end up being a little trickier in the long run. What is certain: even if he announces a decision prior to the start of his senior season, it will be fight for English until he signs on the dotted line during the Early Signing Period.
