Keith Bogans Promoted to Knicks Head Coaching Staff

In the wake of head coach David Fizdale’s firing from the New York Knicks, one former Kentucky Wildcat will step in to help stop the endless bleeding.

According to The Athletics’s Shams Charania, Keith Bogans is being promoted from his assistant position with the Knicks G League affiliate, the Westchester Knicks, to the Knicks’ head coaching staff under interim head coach Mike Miller (no, not that Mike Miller).

Bogans played four years – all as a starter – in Lexington from 1999-2003 under Tubby Smith’s regime. The Washington, D.C. native put up career averages of 14.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.3 assists while shooting over 37 percent from the field in 135 total games.

He was named an All-American during his senior season in 2003 and was inducted in the Kentucky Athletics Hall of Fame in 2014. Bogans spent 13 total seasons in the NBA after being drafted in the second round of the 2013 NBA Draft. His best season as a pro was a member of the Orlando Magic during the 2007-08 season when he appeared in all 82 games putting up 8.7 points and 3.2 rebounds per game at the age of 27.

Since his time as a player came to an end, Bogans has been an assistant for the Westchester Knicks since 2017.

The Knicks are a trainwreck, but hopefully, the influence of one former Wildcat can help the development of another (Kevin Knox).
