Yesterday, Keldon Johnson rolled his ankle during the GEICO High School Nationals quarterfinals, inducing panic across the Big Blue Nation. Johnson wasn’t able to suit up for the semifinals this afternoon, but he did sound hopeful about playing tomorrow should Oak Hill make the championships.

“It’s hurting, but I think with the right treatment, I can get back out there tomorrow,” Johnson told ESPN. “But my coaches are very cautious about putting me out there today with it hurting because I can’t really move like I want to.”

Later in the broadcast, ESPN’s announcers said Johnson tried to give it a go before the game, but was unable to plant or push off that foot. He’s continuing to receive treatment — even leaving the bench during today’s game to go to the training room — in hopes of playing tomorrow.

Oak Hill trails University School 36-28 at halftime, so they’re going to have to kick it up a notch if they want Johnson to join them.

UPDATE: Keldon Johnson just started the second half despite not being 100%. Talk about one tough dude.

UPDATE x2: Despite Johnson’s best efforts, Oak Hill lost 80-65. University School’s Vernon Carey was just too much, scoring a game-high 29 points. Kudos to Johnson for toughing it out in the second half.
