Kenny Payne says no to DePaul to remain with the New York Knicks
There will not be a Big Blue reunion in Chicago.
Reports surfaced this morning that DePaul’s brass, including athletic director DeWayne Peevy, met with Kenny Payne in Milwaukee to work out a deal to make the former UK associate head coach the new leader of the Blue Demons’ program. Many believed that was the final remaining step to make Payne DePaul’s next head coach. The tension only lasted more than a few hours.
Despite strong interest from DePaul, Kenny Payne will remain with the New York Knicks, per SNY sources.

Kentucky fans who love to connect dots could already foresee the future. Peevy would hire Payne, the two would rock it at DePaul for a couple years and win a Big East title or two. Once Cal and Mitch were ready to step down, they would happily hand the keys to Peevy and Payne. It was a fun hypothetical, but it will not be happening anytime soon.
