It took more than a week to become officially, official, but the hay is in the barn. The University of Kentucky announced on Monday that Joe Sloan will be the Wildcats’ next offensive coordinator.

“I’m so excited to welcome Joe, his wife Taylor and daughters, Whitley and Lottie, to the Big Blue Nation,” new head coach Will Stein said in a statement. “He provides expertise in the Southeastern Conference and he aligns perfectly with our staff and culture. He has developed some of the best players in the country, including a Heisman Trophy winner, and is going to be a great fit for Kentucky Football. He’ll also be a tremendous asset in recruiting throughout the South.”

The Heisman Trophy winner Stein referred to is Jayden Daniels. Sloan served as the LSU quarterbacks coach when Daniels developed into the best player in college football. Last year, Daniels was the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Sloan spent the last four years at LSU, including the last two as offensive coordinator. During his first year calling the offense, the Tigers had one of the top passing attacks in the SEC. They ranked No. 2 in the SEC and No. 7 nationally in passing offense, averaging 315.2 yards per game. LSU put up 431.5 yards per game, good enough for No. 25 in the FBS.

Sloan is already hard at work in Lexington and is excited to join the staff Will Stein is creating at Kentucky.

“I have the utmost respect for Coach Stein as a person, a leader, and a developer of young men,” Sloan said. “I’ve known Will for a long time, and when this opportunity came up, it was a dream come true. To be able to work with Coach Stein at the beginning of his head coaching career, as he builds something so special, means a great deal to me. I know he will make a lasting impact on UK and the Commonwealth and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”

Prior to his four-year stint at LSU, Sloan worked at Louisiana Tech for nine seasons. The former East Carolina quarterback’s deep ties in Louisiana have already paid dividends on the recruiting trail for Kentucky. The Wildcats ended the Early Signing Period by landing Kenny Darby. The wide receiver immediately became the top-ranked player in the Kentucky recruiting class.
