The fall semester for the 2025-26 school year is still fairly fresh at the University of Kentucky but it’s never too early to look ahead to what could happen during the spring semester over at Kentucky Proud Park. Nick Mingione is back for his ninth season as the leader of this SEC baseball program. Expectations are high for the Bat Cats following three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.

Kentucky has some returning star power at pitcher and in the lineup. The Cats hit the transfer portal hard in the offseason and figure to be a contender in the SEC despite drawing a brutal schedule in 2026. It’s a long way until first pitch in February but some important preseason work is getting done now on campus. The program is now opening its doors to see Mingione’s newest club.

Kentucky will host three open scrimmages this week at the ballpark.

KSR will have boots on the ground on Wednesday (weather pending) to cover the first scrimmage. Updates will be posted rapidly at KSBoard. This open scrimmage should give us a good glimpse of what Mingione and his staff added to the roster plus were young stars like Tyler Bell are in their development.

Baseball season is right around the corner. The Bat Cats have high expectations in 2026. We will get our first look at the team this week.
