Kentucky baseball adds The Citadel to 2026 non-conference schedule

Many in Big Blue Nation will be worried about what is going on with Mark Pope’s team in the first full weekend of March, but the college baseball season will be entering the end of non-conference play. Kentucky baseball was hit with a curveball last week when Mercer backed out of a scheduled series with Kentucky from March 6-8 at Kentucky Proud Park.
It did not take long for the Bat Cats to find a replacement. Bat Cats Central’s Derek Terry reported on Tuesday that The Citadel will replace Mercer on the schedule. UK has filled an opening the weekend before SEC play begins.
The Citadel finished last season with a winning record (31-26) under head coach Russell Triplett. It was a huge jump for the Bulldogs after a 21-32 finish in Triplett’s first season. The hope is that this can be a respectable RPI game for Kentucky that can boost the NCAA Tournament resume.
College baseball is right around the corner.
