Kentucky Baseball was supposed to start its series vs. Mississippi State tonight in Starkville, but Mother Nature doesn’t want to play ball. Tonight’s game has been postponed until tomorrow, which will now be a doubleheader. This is the second weekend in a row the Cats will play two games on Saturday after weather forced the same scenario last week vs. South Carolina.

The first game will start at 3 p.m. ET/2 p.m. CT, with the second starting 40 minutes after the end of the first. Both games will be nine innings long. For now, Sunday’s game will be played as scheduled at 1 p.m. ET/noon CT. Saturday’s games will stream live on SEC Network+, with Sunday’s game airing on SEC Network.

Kentucky is looking to bounce back after losing at Western Kentucky on Tuesday. Before stumbling in Bowling Green, the Cats were on a roll, winning back-to-back series vs. Tennessee and South Carolina. Tomorrow, they’ll face a Mississippi State squad that fired its head coach earlier this week. The Bulldogs are 26-19 this season, 7-14 in the SEC (14th place).

Nick Mingione, who spent eight seasons on Mississippi State’s staff before coming to Lexington, was mentioned as a potential candidate for the opening, so that’ll be a big storyline. Hopefully, his trip back to Starkville doesn’t conjure up too many happy memories. Kentucky RHP Nate Harris is scheduled to be the starting pitcher in the first game, RHP Nic McCay in the second, and LHP Ben Cleaver in the third.

With just three more SEC series (at Mississippi State, vs. Oklahoma, at Vanderbilt) left, the Cats need to regain their momentum to secure a good seed in the NCAA Tournament. As of now, they’re still projected to be a No. 2 seed.
