Kentucky's bullpen rebuild continues with commitment from RHP Ryan Mullan

Kentucky Baseball has landed five players from the transfer portal so far this offseason; all five have been right-handed pitchers, a clear sign that Nick Mingione is focusing on his bullpen. The latest is Loyola Marymount transfer Ryan Mullan, who announced his commitment to Kentucky this afternoon. The rising junior will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Mullan sat out the 2025 season as he recovered from Tommy John surgery, which he had in November. As a sophomore in 2024, the Chino Hills, CA native pitched in 35 games (the seventh most of any player in America), totaling a 3.77 ERA over 45.1 innings and 49 strikeouts. He held opposing hitters to a .236 average. As a freshman, Mullan pitched in 12 games, finishing with a 7.07 ERA. That year, Loyola Marymount won the West Coast Conference title.
Mullan spoke with Derek Terry of Bat Cats Central last night and said that he liked Kentucky’s vision for him and the opportunity to win big at the college level.
“It’s important because (the coaches) see the future I have,” Mullan said. “They saw my past, all the success I had. They thought they can get more out of me, and I feel like that’s important when choosing a school because I’m not a finished product yet. If they can help get the full product and value out of me the next two years, that’s something I want to be a part of to maximize my potential and hopefully play pro ball and go to Omaha.”

As mentioned, Mullan is the fifth RHP to transfer to Kentucky since the portal officially opened on June 2, joining Bryson Treichel (North Florida), Jack Bennett (Western Kentucky), Kaden Echeman (Northern Kentucky), and Burkley Bounds (Eastern Kentucky). Late last week, the bullpen got some great news when RHP Nate Harris and LHP Ben Cleaver confirmed they will return to Kentucky.
