Where Kentucky Stands in the Latest NET Rankings

The dust has settled on another weekend of college basketball. Fortunately, Kentucky turned the tide and stopped its skid against high-major foes by limiting Indiana to just 21 second-half points in a 72-60 victory at Rupp Arena. The two Wildcat wins did a number on where Kentucky stands in the rankings.

Following the embarrassing loss to Gonzaga, Kentucky slipped all the way to No. 39 in the NET rankings. This week, they’re back up to No. 27, one spot behind the team they just took down, Indiana. At the moment, the victory over the Hoosiers is a Quad 1 win, the first of the season for Kentucky.

Michigan still has the top spot in the NET Rankings, followed by Duke, Gonzaga, Arizona, and Iowa State. The Desert Wildcats had an impressive 96-75 win over Alabama on Saturday night. Undefeated Vanderbilt is the highest-ranked SEC team in the NET at No. 7.

Mark Pope will face his former coach, Rick Pitino, in Saturday’s CBS Sports Classic. St. John’s is ranked No. 24 in the NET, making it a Quad 1 matchup in Atlanta. The Red Storm has recorded wins over Baylor and Ole Miss, but fell to Alabama, Auburn, and Iowa State.

The NET Ranking is the only advanced metric used by the Selection Committee, but it’s not what Las Vegas uses to handicap games. KenPom is still bullish on the Cats, ranking Kentucky at No. 20. The Cats have the 16th-ranked defense in college basketball. Bart Torvik‘s rankings more closely align with the NET, with the Cats coming in at No. 26.
