It’s time for the Big Blue Nation to get its first look at the 2025-26 Kentucky Basketball team. Tonight, the Cats will take the floor at Historic Memorial Coliseum for the program’s 11th annual Pro Day, streamed live on SEC Network+.

From 5:30 to 7:30 PM ET, the Cats will show off their skills for representatives from all 30 NBA teams. In addition to measurements and drills, the players will participate in 5-on-5 scrimmages. We’ve heard that Mark Pope may even put them through a whole practice, which would be quite a treat ahead of Big Blue Madness on Saturday.

Dick Gabriel and Goose Givens will be on the call for SEC Network+, interviewing coaches and players throughout the two-hour broadcast. KSR has several boots on the ground to cover what you can’t see on TV, so refresh the feed below.

KSR’s Pro Day Rapid Reaction

10/07/2025 06:57:49 PM

That sure was fun! Let’s do a quick recap of our favorite things. There was much more good than bad for our first look at this year’s Kentucky Wildcats.

Pro Day wraps with a Pope interview

10/07/2025 06:28:57 PM

UK Pro Day wrapped a little early, and after his guys shook the hands of every NBA scout in the house, Mark Pope sat down with Dick Gabriel and Goose Givens to recap it. Some highlights:

— The White Team tonight was Jaland Lowe, Denzel Abderdeen, Malachi Moreno, Mo Dioubate, Trent Noah, and Braydon Hawthorne. The Blue Team was Brandon Garrison, Collin Chandler, Reece Potter, Jasper Johnson, Andrija Jelavic, and Kam Williams. Otega Oweh and Jayden Quaintance did not participate in the 5-on-5 scrimmaging.

Mark Pope said those have been the teams for scrimmages the last five practices, and he’s been experimenting with “stacking” teams in hopes of predicting the outcomes, which is proving difficult because of their depth. Pope said the blue team has dominated the last four days, but the white team got its first win today.

“Man, we got a lot of competitive guys. We have so many little pieces that we can tweak. It’s just a matter of getting to them, the little things we can try. This can be an incredibly fun team to coach.

“What’s been fun for me is, it’s been fun and really challenging. Usually, I can stack a team and know the outcome. And I’ve tried for the last five days, I’ve tried to stack a team and get the predicted outcome in practice, and I can’t. I’ve actually talked to the guys about that, like, we tried to trick it up and stack it, and who’s playing? Well, let’s put them all together, and then, for sure, the other team raised up. This is a team of great depth and great competitive spirit. I can’t wait. Like, it is such a joy to coach this group.”

— Lots of talk about “chasing growth.” Pope mentioned Jasper Johnson’s quote from Media Day about iron sharpening iron, which made him flash back to his playing days.

“That was my experience here. That was my experience in Kentucky in such a huge way. We’ve talked about this for 30 years, our practices were so much harder than games, almost with very few exceptions, and we felt like our second unit — and I say this because I was in the second unit — it felt like our second unit probably could have been a final national championship team.”

— Pope said this team loves playing and is so competitive that he wanted to call a practice early last week because the team was struggling with a transition drill, but the players wouldn’t let him.

“I tried to call it, the guys went, ‘No, no, no, no, we got it. We’ve got to finish this. We got to.’ I love it. I love it. I love it. It’s just, we have so many guys bringing that juice.”

— Pope mentioned Denzel Aberdeen, Mo Dioubate, and Collin Chandler as the ringleaders when it comes to competitive spirit. He also mentioned some specific numbers that show how Aberdeen has progressed since transferring to Kentucky from Florida, where he won a national championship.

“He’s at a 1.18 points for possession right now, which is a big jump from where he was at Florida. He’s shooting 47% from three in our first two and a half weeks of practice. He’s actually improving his two-point percentage. His assist-to-turnover ratio is taking a massive jump this summer. He was in the 25, 26, 27%, now he’s down in the low teens, you know, to 11, 12, 13% so he is really growing as a player, but he’s a dangerous, dangerous, dangerous player. He’s really skilled.”

— Pope is happy the guys are getting the feedback on how to improve their games for the pros, but Pope being Pope, it also gives him and the staff more data to work with.

“It’s a way for us to kind of give one more data point to how we’re trying to grow and develop our guys. And it’s an incredible experience for our guys to, yet again, have a chance to be in the gym and be undistractable, to be focused on what they’re doing right now, and to learn that skill of not being distracted by anything else going on around them.”

It was also cool to see the entire team still on the floor working on their shots as Pope spoke. This team clearly loves to play basketball. I love watching them do it, too.

Another mention of dialing guys back

10/07/2025 05:40:06 PM

Every assistant coach interviewed thus far has talked about how competitive this team is, to the point that they’re having to dial them back sometimes in practice. The latest is Mikhail McLean, whose quotes will get you ready to run through a wall.

“We almost have to dial these guys down. Everything we do, they want it to be a competition. Sometimes we’re like guys, we need teach a little bit. They just want to play, they want to foul the living snot out of each other.”

“We always say the practices are going to be so much harder than the actual games. Yesterday was supposed to be a lighter day to keep these guys fresh, and these guys are literally trying to fight one another. Guys are diving on the floor, climbing on each other’s backs for rebounds, blocking shots, talking trash, we’re like, guys, relax. They cannot wait to play against someone else, man. We never have to dial these guys up.”

McLean also talked a lot about depth. “We’re going to come in waves…We legitimately have 13 guys who are good enough to start at a lot of high-major programs. It’s a good problem to have.”

McLean also said this team loves basketball so much that three players carry basketballs with them to class every day. Jayden Quaintance even took one to the golf course with him during the team retreat.

Cody Fueger raves about Malachi Moreno

10/07/2025 05:23:44 PM

Cody Fueger just wrapped up his interview with Dick and Goose and spent a lot of it raving about Malachi Moreno. Notes:

— Says this is a competitive, high-level team we’re excited about. “Amazing group, a lot of fun to coach”

— Says UK is spending a lot of time on defense because “we want to be the best defensive team in the country.”

— Compared Malachi Moreno to Amari Williams: “Malachi, he’s different than Amari, but he can do some of the same things Amari did. Not as mobile as Amari, but Malachi has a high ceiling. He’s physical. Our bigs are good players.”

— Started with Moreno while listing the pleasant surprises so far: “I wasn’t sure how fast he would pick up offense/defense, but Malachi’s first day, I was like, yeah, okay…He has the chance to be pretty special.”

— Says Jasper Johnson is picking things up quickly despite being a month and a half behind the others due to Team USA responsibilities.

— “Jaland Lowe can get by everybody and make every pass”

— Mo Dioubate “just wins everything. He grabs every rebound. He’s tough as nails.” Said Mo has started breaking huddles with “Work Hard.”

Hit the stairs, Andrija Jelavic

10/07/2025 05:15:26 PM

What happens when you make a mistake at HMC? You gotta hit the stairs. That was the reality for the newcomer from Croatia, who ran all the way up to the top and touched the wall before getting back to the floor and jumping back in drills.

The good news? Jelavic has looked awesome overall, making shots and showing off his versatility as a swing four.

Notes from Alvin Brooks III’s interview

10/07/2025 05:00:18 PM

Dick Gabriel and Goose Givens just interviewed associate head coach Alvin Brooks III on the broadcast. A few notes:

— Mark Pope told the team to treat today as a normal practice and not get nervous with NBA scouts in the house: “What you did yesterday was good enough. What you did the day before was good enough.”

— Brooks said defense is sparking competition in practice: “We have a lot of guys who are competing to be Defensive Player of the Year…They compete that way a lot to the point we have to tone the practice plans down so we don’t have to compete too much.”

“They talk noise to each other and it’s a lot of competitive spirit, but I love that at the end of it, they hug, they laugh, you’d never know they just went up against each other.”

Mark Fox echoed this in his interview, saying that this team has a lot of “alpha males” on it, so they have to dial it down sometimes, but everyone loves the spirit.

— Brooks said the difference from last year’s team so far is that not as many guys know their roles at the moment, so practices are super competitive.

— Brooks said that “top to bottom,” this is the deepest team he’s ever been a part of. Strong words coming from someone who won a title at Baylor.

Deron Rippey Jr. is in attendance

10/07/2025 04:52:52 PM

A five-star watching his future teammates at Historic Memorial Coliseum? Deron Rippey Jr., the nation’s No. 2 point guard in 2026, is in attendance watching Pro Day. He’s in town for his official visit, the program’s top target at his position.

NC State and Tennessee are the other top contenders to land his commitment.

Jayden Quaintance is a (loose) participant

10/07/2025 04:44:35 PM

How about a surprise to get Pro Day rolling? Jayden Quaintance, just seven months removed from surgery to repair a torn ACL, is going through drills in front of NBA scouts. He’s not going crazy out there, but it’s still our first look at the future lottery pick knocking down shots and dunking the ball with some light running and jumping. Mark Pope said he was “breaking every record known to humankind” in his recovery, and this is certainly a sign of that.

The 6-11, 255-pound sophomore is moving pretty well ahead of his Kentucky debut — whenever that is.

KSR has arrived at Pro Day

10/07/2025 04:25:59 PM

KSR has made it into the building for tonight’s Pro Day. Doesn’t look like we’ll see much from Otega Oweh, though — he’s the only Wildcat not in a practice jersey as he continues to recover from a toe injury. Jayden Quaintance, however, is in a practice jersey and has been going through stretches with the rest of the team. We’ll get started in a few minutes…
