It's now "Make Danny Hurley Say No" Day for Kentucky

After considering a future at Kentucky and talking it over with his family, Scott Drew is staying at Baylor. Where does Kentucky go from here? Matt Jones says all eyes are on Storrs, Connecticut where Dan Hurley is now the new focus of the coaching search.

“Today is ‘Make Danny Hurley Say No’ day,” Jones said. “I think he will, but they’re gonna make him. Danny Hurley’s agent just felt better than he’s ever felt in his life.”

Hurley has publicly said he’s committed to UConn coming off the Huskies’ second straight national championship; however, he hasn’t directly said he will not take the Kentucky job if offered. Speaking of that offer, Jones is hearing it would make him the highest-paid coach in all of college athletics.

“I think they will offer him between $11 and 12 million,” Jones said. “They will make Danny Hurley, if he were to take it, the highest-paid coach in college athletics, and that includes football.”

Hurley, Drew, and Billy Donovan have remained Kentucky’s top three candidates since the search began but because Hurley has UConn’s championship parade on Saturday and the Chicago Bulls are in an NBA Playoff play-in game next week, they moved forward with Drew. Now, it’s all in on Hurley.

“They’ll make Danny Hurley say no. I think they were ready to do this anyway but they thought they had a better shot with [Scott] Drew,” Jones said. “If it’s a yes, I don’t think it happens today because they’ve got that parade Saturday. This is one of those days that no news is good news. Every minute you go by and don’t hear something is good.”

If Hurley also passes, the search moves to Donovan, who has turned Kentucky down twice before. The Bulls play at Detroit tonight, at Washington tomorrow, and at New York on Sunday. The play-in game vs. the Hawks is on Wednesday.

Who’s ready for more madness??
