Kentucky football is expected to be incredibly active in the transfer portal this offseason. Several prospective names have already been churning in the rumor mill, headlined by the quarterback, running back, and offensive line positions. We can go ahead and add another lineman to the list of the Wildcats’ potential targets.

Right tackle Savion Washington, who announced on Dec. 4 that he would transfer out of Kent State with multiple years of college eligibility left, has been in touch with the Kentucky coaching staff since his decision, he told KSR this week. The two sides are in the process of trying to set up a visit, although nothing has been confirmed as of this post.

Washington has also heard from the likes of Oklahoma State, Minnesota, Purdue, Rutgers, and NC State since he announced his transfer on Sunday. Oklahoma State and NC State have already extended scholarships to him over the last 24 hours, with the Cowboys expected to get him on campus this weekend for a visit.

Washington, who is a native of Akron, OH, is listed at 6-foot-9 and weighs around 320 pounds. He did not play for the Golden Flashes as a freshman in 2020 but saw action in 2021 before becoming a full-time starter in 2022. Washington did not start in Kent State’s season-opening loss to Washington on the road, but did find his way into the game.

From then on he started 10 consecutive games at right tackle, which included matchups against Oklahoma and Georgia throughout the year. According to ESPN, Washington allowed just four pressures across 774 snaps played in 2022. Kent State rattled off 93 rushing yards and one touchdown against Georgia’s top-ranked run defense back in September (the fifth-most the Bulldogs have allowed all season).

Kent State finished 2022 with a 5-7 overall record and a 4-4 mark in the MAC but produced an incredibly effective ground game behind Washington and the rest of the Golden Flashes’ offensive line. Running back Marquez Cooper tallied 1,326 yards on the ground this season, 17th most in all of Division I football.

Kent State’s entire rushing attack ranked 23rd in the country with 202 yards per outing. The Golden Flashes also allowed just 21 sacks through 12 games, which ranks among the nation’s top 50.

Out of high school at St. Vincent-St. Mary’s, Washington was considered a low-three-star recruit by the On3 Consensus. He earned offers from the likes of Akron and Bowling Green (OH) while also taking visits to schools such as Michigan State, Ohio State, and Syracuse before ultimately committing to Kent State in June 2019.
