The Cats started the day with a 5-3 win over LIU Brooklyn at Fenway Field in Palm Springs, California. The team came out hot in the bottom first with an early score thanks to a single by Nikki Sagermann to centerfield; however, they gave three quick points away to the Blackbirds during the second. Kentucky came back during the third inning with a homerun to right field by Griffin Joiner, tying the game up 3-3. Joiner then came through in the clutch once again during the fifth to put the Cats up 4-3. Rachael Metzger then hit her first homerun to add an additional point to the board allowing the Cats to win 5-3. Kentucky then had a close battle with Oregon State later on in the day. The Beavers scored three early points but the Cats did not hold back in the bottom first. They came back to take the lead 4-3 thanks to a RBI by Joiner and errors on the catcher. Oregon State then came back at the top of the second to tie it 4-4 but not for long. Sylver Samuel allowed the Cats to take the lead back by one point due to her single through the right side. With no score during the third, Samuel hit Ansley Smith in to put Kentucky up 6-4. The Beavers added their last point to the board but were unable to achieve a win making the final score 6-5. Tune in tomorrow to see the Cats take on No. 3 Oklahoma for the last day of the tournament.
