The SEC is absolutely stacked in women’s basketball. You can be a fringe top 10 team in the country and not even crack the top quarter of the league. Of course, Kentucky is 3-0 and looking pretty good for the most part, but they’ve still got a long way to go as far as being the cream of the crop in the SEC.

On3’s Talia Goodman currently has Kentucky slotted in at No. 8 in her SEC power rankings. Kentucky was previously No. 7 in her preseason release, but has since flipped with Vanderbilt.

A bit of a hot take on her part — the Texas Longhorns currently sit atop the power rankings with South Carolina in at No. 2. LSU, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Ole Miss and Vandy are all above Kentucky. The Cats are also the eighth-best team in the SEC if you go by the latest AP Poll.

To this point, Kentucky is 3-0 with wins over Morehead State and Monmouth at home and Buffalo on the road. It won’t be until Nov. 18 (Purdue at home) that Kentucky will face a Power 4 program.

Kentucky will, of course, play each of these teams in conference play — and Vandy twice — so they’ll have plenty of opportunities to ascend these rankings as the year goes along.
