Kentucky is top seed remaining after No. 1 Nebraska fell in Elite Eight

Kentucky volleyball secured a berth in the Final Four on Saturday when the Wildcats swept No. 3 seed Creighton in consecutive sets. Craig Skinner’s program will be making the trek to Kansas City this week to try and win another national championship. Another top contender will not be there.

Texas A&M shocked the volleyball world on Sunday when they knocked off Nebraska in a significant postseason upset.

Texas A&M became the first road team to beat Nebraska in 1,114 days in the 3-2 (25-22, 25-22, 20-25, 35-37, 15-13) victory. The Huskers are now the first No. 1 overall seed to not reach the Final Four since 2015. This was Nebraska’s first loss of the season.

There will not be an undefeated national champion in college volleyball this season. Kentucky is now the highest-remaining seed in the field after being the No. 2 overall seed on Selection Sunday. Up next for the Cats (29-2) will be Wisconsin on Thursday in the national semifinal after the Badgers left Austin with a regional championship. Kentucky is playing Wisconsin in a Final Four.

(What could go wrong? We’re not talking about that right now.)

Skinner’s UK team has not lost since non-conference play in September. That came against Pittsburgh who will face Texas A&M in the other national semifinal.

The Cats are just two wins away from some more national championship hardware. The No. 1 will not be in Kansas City to stop them.
