Kentucky Finds Its Next Wide Receivers Coach

Nick-Roush-headshotby: Nick Roush3 hours agoRoushKSR

It was an eventful morning for Will Stein. The Kentucky coaching staff added three newcomers to the fold on Saturday.

Cutter Leftwich is expected to follow Stein from Oregon and coach the offensive line, Josh Christian-Young is making the move from Houston to coach safeties, and now Pete Nakos is reporting that Joe Price III is expected to spend the next season in Lexington.

Price has spent the last six seasons at UTSA. The former high school coach started as a director of player personnel. Four years ago, he was promoted to wide receivers coach, the position he’s expected to lead in Lexington. For the last two years, Price has also had the title of associate head coach and passing game coordinator.

This will be the third coach on the Kentucky staff with ties to UTSA, the place where the head coach first got an opportunity to call plays. Justin Burke is also expected to join Stein and Price in Kentucky for the 2026 campaign.

Price is expected to replace L’Damian Washington, who only spent one season in Lexington. Washington recruited well and developed last year’s pass-catchers into a consistent unit. He was arguably Stoops’ best wide receivers coach, but that’s a very low bar. During his 13-year tenure, Mark Stoops hired seven different wide receiver coaches, including four over the last five years.

Stein’s Expected Coaching Staff as of Right Now

There is a lot of funny business going on with the language of how these reports are being phrased, but when you read the tea leaves, this is the result.

Joe Sloan: Offensive Coordinator
Jay Bateman: Defensive Coordinator
Cutter Leftwich: Offensive Line
Justin Burke: Tight Ends
Joe Price III: Wide Receivers
Josh Christian-Young: Safeties
Anwar Stewart: Defensive Line
Mike Hartline: Offensive Analyst
Pat Biondo: General Manager
Pete Nochta: Director of Player Personnel

Obviously, things can change. Do not consider this final Gospel. The University of Kentucky has yet to officially announce one single addition since Stein was introduced as the Wildcats’ head coach.
