Kentucky to Host Louisiana Tech Wide Receiver for Official Visit

Kentucky had a late, unexpected departure on transfer portal deadline day. Hardley Gilmore was one of five wide receivers to leave the program this offseason. The Cats need to find experienced reinforcements from the transfer portal and we’ve learned of at least one player that could join Big Blue Nation.
Former Louisiana Tech wide receiver Tru Edwards shared on social media that he will be officially visiting Kentucky on Jan. 5. The 6-foot-3 wide receiver played high school football in Texas, but is from Shreveport, the hometown of UK’s new wide receivers coach, L’Damian Washington.
In 2024, Edwards led Louisiana Tech in receiving and was a First-Team All-Conference-USA selection. He led the league in receptions (84) and was second in receiving yards (986). Edwards caught six touchdown passes, and he would argue he should be credited with seven after this play was overturned in the Independence Bowl.
Edwards was in the same high school recruiting class as Tyrese Maxey and J.J. Weaver. The 23-year-old can become a super-duper senior thanks to the Diego Pavia rule. He began his career at the junior college level within the timeframe that will allow him to receive an additional year of eligibility.

Edwards was a NJCAA All-American at Navarro College in Texas. After two seasons in the JUCO ranks, he spent one year at Hawaii, then returned to the mainland to play for Sonny Cumbie in Ruston. It took some time for the cake to bake. He did not record a stat as a redshirt sophomore, then worked his way into the rotation as a starter for the Bulldogs before his breakout 2024 campaign.
In addition to leading Louisiana Tech in receiving last fall, Edwards also returned punts. It’s another reason why the lengthy wide receiver has been a popular player in the transfer portal since he received the green light for another year of college football. Edwards has reported offers from South Carolina, USC, Virginia Tech, Arizona State, Texas A&M, Florida State, Washington, and Mississippi State.
Kentucky has added two wide receivers from the transfer portal this offseason, but that’s not enough. The Wildcats currently have ten scholarship players in that room and half of them are true freshmen. Edwards could provide some much-needed experience and appears to have what it takes to be a plug-and-play starter.
