Kentucky is in good health at first bye week

College football is a game of attrition. Kentucky lost the attrition war in 2024 as most of the season included an assortment of players littered across availability reports in SEC play. The Cats are trying their best to avoid the injury bug in 2025. So far they have been successful.

However, there have been some injuries that popped up through the first three games. Starting cornerback DJ Waller Jr. tweaked his hamstring and did not play in the last two games. Tehryon Nichols was Waller’s replacement and the former blue-chip recruit left the Week 3 game with Eastern Michigan early. So did tailback Dante Dowdell. UK is dealing with some injuries but there is nothing major on the table right now.

Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops does not expect any injury to be a long-term situation.

“If I had something that I was going to tell you that was going to be 3, 4, 5 weeks I’d tell you. No, nothing like that,” Stoops told KSR on Wednesday.

Stoops and his coaching staff made some tweaks to the program’s bye week routine this week. Kentucky made an effort to have some physical practices and to do some “good on good” work in an effort to keep the team sharp when they head to South Carolina next week.

The Cats will make that road trip with a healthy roster.
