Kentucky Goes 5-1 at Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic

  [caption id="attachment_174021" align="aligncenter" width="409"]10811359 Photo By UK Athletics[/caption] The No. 9 Cats completed the final day of the prestigious tournament with a loss to No. 3 Oklahoma and a win over San Diego State. Kentucky started the day with a significant 7-3 loss to highly ranked Oklahoma, who won the 2013 Women’s College World Series. The Wildcats redeemed themselves in their second game of the day with a 5-2 victory against San Diego State, who won the Mountain West conference last year. Offensively, Griffin Joiner went 3-for-3 against the Aztecs and extended her hitting streak to four games. Erin Rethlake provided a run in the sixth inning with an RBI in her first game at-bat. Christian Stokes and Maisie Steed each picked up an RBI in the game, and Ansley Smith went 1-1 with a triple and run scored. Sylver Samuel and Breanne Ray also contributed singles to the game. Defensively, Meagan Prince started and picked up her sixth win of the season with four strong innings. Kelsey Nunley then relieved her by tossing the final three innings and only allowing two hits and no runs with five strikeouts. Oklahoma came out strong, posting six runs within the first two innings. Kentucky settled with three runs all in the sixth inning. Nunley pitched the first two innings, allowing six runs on five hits with four strikeouts. Rethlake pitched the rest of the game and went four innings with one run allowed on three hits with four strikeouts. Offensively, Stokes picked up her second home run of the season over the Sooners talented pitcher; however, they could not pick up the win. The Cats will head to Chattanooga next weekend to play five games against Tennessee Tech, Wright State, Purdue, Chattanooga, and Belmont.
