Kentucky has the most efficient run offense in the country

You may have heard this already, but Ray Davis is good at football. Against Florida, Kentucky’s lead tailback made sure anyone still doubting this fact knew better than to question him. He ran the ball 26 times for 280 yards, boasting an incredible 10.8 yards per rush. Only one other person in history has ever run for more yards against Florida.
The rest of the running back fleet (and Barion Brown) performed solidly as well, combining for an additional 10 carries and 49 yards. In total, Kentucky averaged 9.1 yards per carry, an incredible showing against the top-rated rushing defense in the SEC.
With Saturday’s stellar performance, Kentucky vaulted from 10th overall to the best yards-per-rush team in the country with an overall yards-per-rush stat of 6.8. No one in the NCAA is more efficient than Kentucky when it comes to running the ball.
For a team filled with dynamic wide receivers, a highly-touted quarterback, and a less-than-immaculate offensive line, this is a surprising bonus not too many people saw coming and a testament to the skillset and explosiveness of Ray Davis. The Big Blue Wall deserves a huge tip of the hat for this accomplishment as well, as they continue to open just enough holes for Davis to work, despite not necessarily grading out well according to advanced analytics.

Liam Coen should also be given his fair share of praise, adapting from a pass-heavy scheme in the first couple of games to the run-focused attack against Florida. Play your strengths.
Saturday’s onslaught also dropped Florida down from first overall in rush defense to third in the SEC. The power of Ray Davis is real.
