When Bush Hamdan was hired to be the next Kentucky offensive coordinator, he made it clear that the quarterback run game would play a part in the Wildcats’ offense. Brock Vandagriff has the ability to get some yards with his legs. It looks like Hamdan is willing to invest even more in the QB run game by taking a look at a talented dual-threat option in the transfer portal.

Sources tell KSR that Collin Schlee is on campus today for an official visit to Kentucky. Schlee is a grad transfer from UCLA with one year of eligibility remaining.

Schlee began his career at Kent State. He rose to stardom in 2022 under respected play-caller Sean Lewis, passing for 2,109 yards and 15 touchdowns, while rushing for just under 500 yards and four scores.

During his one season at UCLA, he played in seven games as the Bruins’ running option at quarterback. Last fall he picked up 425 yards on the ground and three touchdowns. According to PFF data, the 6-foot-3, 225-pound athlete has 1,264 career non-sack rushing yards on 8.3 yards per rush.

Schlee carved up Hamdan’s Boise State squad in the LA Bowl. The quarterback gained 127 yards on the ground on only seven carries. He also completed 11 of 16 passes for 78 yards and this impressive improvisational touchdown pass.

In addition to Kentucky, the Maryland native has received interest from Virginia Tech. He reportedly has an official visit set up to Blacksburg this weekend.

Kentucky currently has two scholarship quarterbacks on its 2024 roster, Vandagriff and true freshman Cutter Boley. Schlee could give the Wildcats some much-needed depth. They say if you have two quarterbacks, you have none. But what if one of those is really good at running the football? The BBN could soon see a new wrinkle to Hamdan’s first offense in Lexington.
