Kentucky’s 2024 recruiting class continues to build momentum. Now ranked No. 26 in the country by the On3 Industry Ranking following last Friday’s commitment of four-star twins Jacob and Jerod Smith, even more blue-chip prospects could be on the way. Three-star linebacker Devin Smith is set to announce on Friday with Kentucky the frontrunner while four-star EDGE Brian Robinson is closing in on a decision with the Wildcats also in front of the pack.

That’s not all though. Kentucky is in the running to land another four-star recruit: 6-foot-2, 180-pound cornerback Kam Mikell out of Statesboro (GA) High. On Tuesday, Mikell announced through Instagram that Kentucky sits among his top six, as do Tennessee, Colorado, South Carolina, Texas A&M, and Georgia. In his post, Mikell indicated that he “may be” committing on Friday, November 3rd.

Mikell is coming off an unofficial visit to Florida (which did not make his group of finalists) last weekend and also OV’d at Colorado earlier this month. He officially visited South Carolina in June but will return for an unofficial this weekend. He still has an official visit locked in with Kentucky the weekend of Oct. 28 when the Wildcats host Tennessee at Kroger Field — the weekend before he could possibly make a decision.

Mikell has already taken an official visit to Georgia (the perceived favorite) in May and will be in Tennessee next weekend for his official visit to check out the Volunteers. He’s visited UT multiple times over the last several months. His official visit with Texas A&M is scheduled for the weekend of Oct. 6. Mikell was actually expected to OV at Kentucky earlier this month, but switched it for Colorado. Regardless, he’ll be in Lexington next month.

Throughout his recruitment, Mikell has only taken one visit to Kentucky — an unofficial in Nov. 2022. However, the coaching staff has remained in constant connection with the versatile four-star. Kentucky is pitching the idea of Mikell playing wide receiver at college, which is the position he would prefer to play as opposed to cornerback. He is a high-level track athlete, a starting guard on his high school basketball team, and a multi-purpose athlete on the gridiron spending some time at quarterback, tailback, and wide receiver.

Keep in mind that Kentucky was the first Power Five offer for Mikell, which he received all the way back in April 2022. He’s being primarily recruited by the Wildcats’ defensive backs coach, Chris Collins.
