The AP voters were indifferent on Kentucky‘s pair of wins to open the regular season vs. Nicholls and Valparaiso, but the Coaches Poll showed some positive movement for the Wildcats. Starting the season ranked No. 9, Mark Pope’s group used that 2-0 start to move up to No. 8 nationally this week.

There was no movement at Nos. 1 and 2 with Purdue and Houston staying put, but Florida’s loss to Arizona flipped things from there with UConn sliding up to No. 3, Duke now at No. 4, Michigan at No. 5, the Tucson Wildcats at No. 6 and BYU at No. 7. The SEC closes out the top 10 with Alabama at No. 9 and the Gators at No. 10.

Elsewhere, Louisville comes in at No. 12 overall, setting up a top-15 battle at the KFC Yum! Center on Tuesday. St. John’s, Kentucky’s opponent in the CBS Sports Classic on December 20 in Atlanta, is right behind at No. 13, while Champions Classic foe Michigan State sits at No. 17. From there, Gonzaga and North Carolina come in at No. 19 and No. 20, respectively, to wrap up non-conference matchups for the Wildcats.

As for SEC competition, Tennessee sits at No. 18, followed by Arkansas all the way down to No. 21 and Auburn down to No. 25. Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Missouri, Georgia and Texas round out those receiving votes.
