This afternoon, John Calipari visited 2021 top-five prospect AJ Griffin at his school in New York, with the Kentucky head coach pulling the trigger on a scholarship at the conclusion of the trip. Corey Evans of was the first to break the news. Griffin, a 6-foot-7, 200-pound small forward out of White Plains, NY, now holds offers from Kentucky, Duke, Villanova, Michigan, Maryland, Providence, UCLA, and Illinois, among other schools. The five-star wing is currently rated as the No. 5 prospect in the junior class according to 247Sports, with and ESPN listing him at No. 8 and No. 10 overall, respectively. The 247Sports Composite rankings list Griffin as the No. 8 prospect in the class of 2021.

Griffin told ZagsBlog at the NY Catholic League Team Camp at Archbishop Molloy HS in July that he was "really interested" in the Kentucky program and its ability to develop players.

"I’m really interested in them so it would be nice to see them,” Griffin said of Kentucky. "That’s one of the things I like about them, is that they get them ready for the NBA the first year. That’s something I look forward to trying to do and just improve my game."

This summer, Griffin suited up with the 2019 USA U16 National Team, who came away with a gold medal in Brazil. The newest Kentucky target averaged 13.5 points per game en route to a 6-0 record and the gold medal. As a sophomore at Archbishop Stepinac last year, the 6-foot-7 wing averaged 20.9 points, 10.9 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 2.4 steals, and 3.5 blocks per contest. Griffin joins five-star prospects Jonathan Kuminga, Patrick Baldwin Jr., Paolo Banchero, Moussa Cisse, Jaden Hardy, and Devin Askew with Kentucky offers in the junior class.
