For second time in the 2024 cycle, a key tailback recruit in Ohio has committed to a Big Ten powerhouse program. Michigan struck first. Now Ohio State has landed a counterpunch.

After the Wolverines locked up Cincinnati (Ohio) Moeller tailback Jordan Marshall, the Buckeyes were forced to move to an alternative option. That happened to be Pickerington (Ohio) North tailback Sam Williams-Dixon who has been a clear Kentucky target since last summer.

On Saturday, the three-star prospect put an end to his recruitment with a commitment to Ohio State.

The Greater Columbus native made his decision shortly after Ohio State’s spring game. Williams-Dixon took a pair of spring visits to see Ryan Day‘s program while last making it to Kentucky in January for a junior day. The tailback camped at Kentucky last summer.

Kentucky will now shift into next man up mode at tailback. Offensive coordinator Liam Coen and running backs coach Jay Boulware currently have six scholarship tailbacks on the roster in 2023, but three players are entering senior seasons. Ramon Jefferson (super senior), Ray Davis (redshirt senior), and JuTahn McClain (true senior) could each be playing their final season of college football. Tailback is a position of need in the 2024 cycle.

The Wildcats must find the next batch of targets to focus in on at the position following Sam Williams-Dixon’s decision. This could be a year where multiple additions are needed at tailback.

Recruiting never stops.
