Yes, Kentucky lost to Arkansas on Saturday in a slightly disappointing fashion. And yet, the loss appears to have made little impact on the team’s current seeding.

You see, seven of the country’s top 10 teams, according to the AP Poll, were beaten on Saturday, including the entirety of the top six: No. 1 Gonzaga, No. 2 Arizona, No. 3 Auburn, No. 4 Purdue, No. 5 Kansas, No. 6 Kentucky, and No. 9 Texas Tech all fell yesterday.

So what does this mean for the projected NCAA Tournament? Who the hell knows! Seven of the 10 best teams all losing on the same day has quite literally never happened before in the story of the AP Poll. But that’s the best part about college basketball. For all we know, this could happen again next Saturday. It felt like Kentucky might dip down to a three-seed following the loss to Arkansas, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.

If you ask ESPN’s Joe Lunardi and his Bracketology standings, he’d tell you UK remains in line for a two-seed, as do the Purdue Boilermakers and Auburn Tigers.

Auburn, Kentucky and Purdue all slipped a single spot on the seed list. The only seed to change was Auburn, which fell from fourth overall to fifth and a No. 2 seed in the bracket. Kentucky and Purdue only slid within the 2-seeds. So the so-called damage was relative and, in essence, minimal.

Looking across the board, the ‘Cats lost to No. 18 Arkansas on the road by just two points, a “quality” loss, if you will. Gonzaga fell to No. 23 Saint Mary’s, Arizona lost to unranked Colorado, Purdue fell to unranked Michigan State, and Texas Tech to an unranked TCU squad. Kansas and Auburn at least fell to ranked opponents, as well, so don’t expect those squads to fall much when the updated Bracketology is released. Lunardi tweeted that Gonzaga will likely remain as the top overall seed despite its first conference loss of the season.

All things considered, Kentucky came away looking better than a few of the other top five teams that lost.
