The Tennessee Volunteers plan to wear their “Dark Mode” uniforms for Saturday’s game against Kentucky. The Wildcats are countering that by going with the opposite look.

On Friday, Kentucky announced that the road threads for this weekend’s game will feature the signature chrome helmets mixed with white jerseys and white pants. As someone who lives for the chrome domes, I’m a fan of this look. It should be aesthetically pleasing to watch matched up against Tennessee’s all-black combo — which I admittedly think looks awesome.

This uniform combo worked well for the Wildcats the last two times they rocked the look. Kentucky beat Vanderbilt on the road 45-28 in Sept. 2023 and then No. 10 Louisville on the road 38-31 in Nov. 2023 wearing this exact combo.

Unfortunately for Kentucky, the Vols have performed quite well when sporting the black alternates. Tennessee is 4-0 since introducing the all-black with orange lettering look in 2009, winning those games by an average of 25.5 points — all coming against SEC teams. In fact, Tennessee beat UK 44-6 in 2022 with the “Dark Mode” uniforms, which was also the debut of UT’s all-black helmet.

Kentucky and Tennessee will kick off in Neyland Stadium tomorrow night at 7:45 p.m. EST on the SEC Network.
