What a day, BBN. Your University of Kentucky Softball team traveled 25 miles east to face the EKU Colonels on Wednesday afternoon — and it was awesome. The Wildcats (30-11; 9-6 SEC) rattled off eight unanswered runs over the final two innings to beat the Kerns 10-7 in Richmond. UK was facing a 7-6 deficit in the top of the seventh with two outs before finishing off the comeback.

RECAP:

Emmy Blane hit a two-run homer to start things off for Kentucky, giving them an early 2-0 lead in the second inning. It was short-lived, though. In the bottom of the inning, EKU scored five runs against a struggling UK bullpen.

First, Lou Bowers hit a double to right-center that scored Vianna Barron and cut the Kentucky lead in half. It was all Colonels from there. Another double from Ariyana Miranda tied things up next. Before you knew it, a pair of singles and a sac fly gave EKU a 5-2 lead heading into the second. The Colonels tacked another on in both the third and the fourth off a single and a solo homer, making it 7-2.

Enter some good ol’ fashioned comeback magic — starting with Taylor Ebbs. Ebbs hit a three-RBI homer to center field to cut the EKU lead to 7-5 in the top of the sixth. Tatum Spangler kept the EKU bats at bay in the bottom of the inning, giving Kentucky a chance to take the lead in the seventh — and take the lead they did.

The ‘Cats posted five runs in the seventh, started by a Meeko Harrison single and an EKU fielding error. Miranda Stoddard came in clutch minutes later with a three-RBI homer to give Kentucky their first lead since the second inning. Emmy Blane smacked an RBI double to tack on one more as the ‘Cats went on to win 10-7.

Wednesday’s game against EKU was UK’s last non-conference game of the season. The ‘Cats will welcome the Missouri Tigers to Lexington next. Game 1 of that series is scheduled for Saturday at 12 p.m. EST on the SEC Network +.
