Kentucky got off to a hot start on Saturday night when the offense marched 65 yards in eight plays to take a 7-0 lead. The Cats backed that up with a nine-play, 76-yard drive that ended with a red zone field goal on the second possession of the game to take a 10-7 lead. Offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan‘s group looked like it had something cooking and could be on its way to a big offensive night.

Then the bottom fell out.

The Wildcats averaged just 2.07 yards per play over the last nine possessions of the game with zero points and four turnovers. A strong start turned into a disastrous performance. It also extended a very long streak that is not going away.

Kentucky has now gone 11 consecutive power conference games without scoring more than two offensive touchdowns in a game.

  • South Carolina (2024): 6 offensive points on two field goals
  • Georgia (2024): 12 offensive points on four field goals
  • Ole Miss (2024): 20 offensive points on two touchdowns and two field goals
  • Vanderbilt (2024): 13 offensive points on two touchdowns
  • Florida (2024): 13 offensive points on two touchdowns
  • Auburn (2024): 10 offensive points on one touchdown and one field goal
  • Tennessee (2024): 18 offensive points on two touchdowns and one field goal
  • Texas (2024): 7 offensive points on one touchdown
  • Louisville (2024): 14 offensive points on two touchdowns
  • Ole Miss (2025): 23 offensive points on two touchdowns and three field goals
  • South Carolina (2025): 13 offensive points on one touchdown and two field goals.

Saturday was fifth time under Hamdan when Kentucky scored one touchdown or less against a power conference defense. The Cats have only scored one touchdown against the Gamecocks in the last eight quarters of football. This offense has only reached 20 points against Ole Miss. Every other SEC defense has held this unit between 6-18 points. UK has a major offensive problem.

Kentucky is currently a flawed football team that must succeed in the margins to win games. Eventually, this offense is going to need to score 20-plus points with three offensive touchdowns in a power conference game to find the winner’s circle again. This certainly seems like the biggest problem at the moment for a program with a lot of problems.

The Wildcats cannot score. It’s hard to win football games if you cannot score. Kentucky owns a 1-11 record in its last 12 games against power conference competition. When you cannot score points, it’s very hard to win football games.
