This weekend the racetrack in Sparta will open its doors to 101 graduating seniors from Gallatin County High School. Instead of walking across the stage to celebrate their commencement ceremony, they'll drive around the track at Kentucky Speedway. The class of 2020 will be divided into groups of 15. A pace car will lead each group onto the track. After they take a lap, the students will pose for a photo. No one is allowed to leave their cars will on the premises. Speedway officials tell the Herald-Leader they are working with other schools in the area to to potentially schedule similar events with other schools. Constructed in 1998, Kentucky Speedway plans to host three NASCAR races this summer from July 9-11.
