Kentucky VB Picks Up Another Top-10 Win, Extends Winning Streak to Eight

The No. 3 Kentucky Wildcats picked up another huge win Wednesday night, defeating No. 9 Texas A&M 3-1 in a thrilling four-set match on the road in College Station, Texas.
Eva Hudson had herself a night for UK, dominating with a double-double: 24 kills and 11 digs. She also served as the team’s energy leader when they needed it the most. Brooklyn DeLeye added 19 kills, providing consistency on offense even when momentum shifted, while Lizzie Carr had 11 kills on an efficient .588 hitting percentage. Jordyn Dailey made a huge impact, tallying four huge kills with precise tip placements, keeping the Aggies on their toes defensively.
Texas A&M came out hot in the first set, jumping to a 7-4 lead early after a kill from an Aggie senior, Logan Lednicky, who proved to be a problem from the jump. The Cats struggled to find a rhythm defensively, as well as with their serve receives. Despite Hudson’s efforts to respond by cutting the lead to 12-10, Kentucky’s overpasses and unforced errors kept them from building momentum. While the Cats threatened with a 4-0 run late, Texas A&M maintained control, taking the first set 25-21, and doubling Kentucky in kills, 18-9.
Kentucky opened up the second set with much cleaner effort and momentum. Carr and Hudson caught fire early, helping the Cats relax and settle in. The Wildcats raced out to a 6-0 run, but the Aggies refused to back down, fighting back to within three and forcing a Kentucky timeout. A&M continued to make the Cats work for it, going on a 4-0 run to cut the lead to 24-22 before a service error handed Kentucky the second set 25-22.
The third set started back in the Aggies’ favor, with Lednicky tallying up 17 kills. However, Kentucky responded with strong net play, posting six blocks in the set. The Wildcats maintained a steady lead throughout, answering each time A&M tried to make a comeback. Automatic offensively, DeLeye led the way as Kentucky closed out the third set convincingly, 25-15.

Texas A&M came out strong once again in the fourth set, as Kentucky got off to a bad start before Hudson put one down to make it 3-1. The Cats struggled again to find consistency, with DeLeye getting stuffed twice early on. Kentucky couldn’t seem to find momentum and instead traded serves with the Aggies. Service errors were a problem for both teams, 10 for A&M and nine for Kentucky, but the Wildcats’ mistakes prevented them from putting together a run. Two huge challenge wins for the Aggies reversed what could have given Kentucky the lead, keeping the momentum on Texas A&M’s side. However, Kentucky managed to hold on, winning the match 3-1 after taking the fourth set 27-25.
Wednesday night’s victory marked Kentucky’s sixth time this season playing a top-10 team on the road. It also extended their winning streak to eight in a row, keeping confidence high as they move deeper into SEC play.
The Wildcats will remain on the road for their next matchup, traveling to Baton Rouge to face LSU on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. (ESPN). Wednesday night’s victory not only bolsters Kentucky’s confidence but also solidifies its status as a powerhouse in college volleyball, setting a strong foundation for the challenges ahead in SEC play.
