Kentucky trails Gonzaga by 23 at halftime as boos rain down at Bridgestone Arena
Kentucky has struggled against ranked opponents this season, but I don’t think anyone expected the Cats to be THIS bad against Gonzaga tonight. Kentucky trails the Zags by 23 at halftime, 43-20, and honestly, it feels worse. According to ESPN, it’s Kentucky’s third-largest halftime deficit in the past 30 seasons. The Cats’ 20 points are the fewest scored in the first half since the 2017-18 team only scored 18 in the first half vs. Missouri, per Corey Price. Historically bad basketball.
At the first media timeout, Kentucky didn’t have a single point. The Cats finished the half with just five field goals, shooting 16% from the field and 13% from the three-point line. One of those threes came from Brandon Garrison. Is he our most reliable three-point shooter now? I’m only half joking. Meanwhile, Gonzaga is shooting 50% from the floor, with over three times as many buckets (17-34). Denzel Aberdeen leads Kentucky in scoring with six points. Otega Oweh has five. Gonzaga big man Graham Ike has 17. That should tell you exactly how the game is going.

Even with the unrest this season, Kentucky fans filled Bridgestone Arena tonight, hoping to will the Cats to a much-needed big win. As it became apparent just how bad this team may be, the boos started. Just a smattering at first and building into a deafening roar as the team went to the tunnel.
There’s still a half to play — and Kentucky did trail Gonzaga by 16 points at halftime last season — but this is ugly, folks.
