Highly-ranked prospects transferring from LSU to Kentucky have worked out for the Wildcats in the past. Could the pipeline to Lexington continue?

According to On3’s Matt Zenitz, LSU’s redshirt senior offensive tackle, Cameron Wire, put his name in the transfer portal on Friday. The 6-foot-8, 295-pound former four-star high school recruit played in four games for the Tigers in 2022 and is the seventh LSU player to enter the portal this week. Wire, who will have one year of eligibility remaining, will be a transfer option to keep an eye on for the Kentucky Wildcats.

Wire has considered a top 400 high school prospect out of the 2018 recruiting class before landing with LSU. The Gonzales, LA native was redshirted as a freshman in 2018 before making six appearances in 2019 as a redshirt freshman. Wire’s sophomore season in 2020 saw him play nine games for the Tigers, including six starts (five at left tackle), playing every offensive snap in five of those outings. While dealing with an injury, he regressed in 2021 as a junior with seven appearances and four starts (all at left tackle).

Under LSU’s first-year head coach Brian Kelly, Wire did not have the 2022 season that many expected coming into the year. He started the season in the trenches for the Tigers but eventually lost his spot to a true freshmen duo of Emery Jones and Will Campbell. Wire was then taken out of the rotation entirely after the fourth game of the year and will now look to take his talents elsewhere for his last go-around at the college level.
